Tammy Abraham

Former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham refused to rule out a return to Stamford Bridge as Graham Potter seeks a new striker this summer.

Roma striker Tammy Abraham has refused to dismiss a return to Chelsea. The 25-year-old said you should “never say never” when discussing a potential Stamford bridge reunion, adding he is “motivated” by transfer speculation.

Before moving overseas, Abraham came through the Blues’ youth ranks and scored 30 goals in 82 appearances after being thrust into the first team under Frank Lampard. Once Thomas Tuchel arrived in west London, Abraham soon fell out of favour, and his departure quickly became inevitable.

Speaking to FourFourTwo, Abraham admitted there is a possibility he could pitch up at Stamford Bridge again in the future. “Would I go back there? In football you can never say never,” he said. “Right now, my focus is here at Roma – we want to finish the season strongly.

“I haven’t started thinking about anything yet, apart from being here and doing my best. I wouldn’t say there’s unfinished business in England – I’m in no rush. Football has no location, it could be anywhere. Maybe I stay at Roma for the next decade, maybe I don’t. You never know what’s around the corner.”

Last summer, after an impressive first campaign at Roma, the striker was continuously linked with a move back to the Premier League. Although he has suffered a slight dip in form this term, the rumours are still there, with the England international revealing he is actually motivated by the links rather than finding it distracting.

“It’s never annoying – as a player, to hear that teams want you is always motivating,” he added. “It means that you’re clearly doing something right and you have interest around the world. You use that as motivation, instead of finding it annoying. It’s nice to know that teams are interested in me.”

However, Abraham would likely represent a cheaper alternative for the Blues if they believe his attributes could sufficiently contribute to Potter’s new-look side next season.
