English Premier League giants Manchester United are leading the race to sign Bayern Munich defender David Alaba.
Alaba has failed to sign a new deal at Bayern despite his contract expiring in the summer with a number of teams already lining up to get his services but according to Spanish outlet AS, United are so far the favorites to land his signature.
Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has admitted that the Austrian international is likely to leave the club when his contract expires in June with Man City, Barcelona, and Real Madrid having been alerted by the statement.
The reports claim that United are trying to steal a march on their rivals, having already made contact with the 28-year-old’s agent, Pini Zahavi.
United is in search of a center back to challenge both captain Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof but getting Alaba could only happen if the club can offload some of its players in order to balance their wage bill.
