The UEFA Champions League organizers are set to introduce four more teams in the 32-club competition.
According to reports, the new format will simply follow a Swiss model, where there will be a set number of matches instead of home and away first phase group games.
Expected Changes:
- There will be 10 rounds of matches against low, medium and high-ranked teams.
- The top eight will progress to the knockout stage, and the same clubs will qualify for the following tournament.
- To fill the remaining eight spots in the last 16, the clubs finished in position 9 to 24 will face off in play-offs.
- From the last 16 to the semi-finals will be the existing format of home and away legs.
