Before signing a new deal, Lionel Messi is said to have sent Barcelona president Joan Laporta a list of demands that he expects to be fulfilled.

Last summer, the Argentina international was on the verge of leaving Camp Nou, and he will be a free agent at the end of the 2020-21 season.

Following an uptick in results and the reappointment of Laporta last month, Barcelona has become increasingly optimistic in persuading Messi to sign a new contract in Catalonia.

However, according to Eurosport, the six-time Ballon d’Or winner will not put pen to paper until he sees tangible results on and off the field.

According to the paper, Messi expects astute signings like Eric Garcia on a free transfer from Manchester City, as well as one marquee signing, probably Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Braut Haaland.

Messi is also said to have told the club that something needs to be done to incorporate younger players into the first team, and that he would like to maintain regular contact with the club’s president.

The superstar forward’s deal will formally expire on July 1, and clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City are keeping an eye on his situation.
