Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has ruled Mateo Kovacic and Andreas Christensen out of their Saturday FA Cup clash against Man City.
Kovacic pulled out of Chelsea’s Champions League second leg match against FC Porto on Wednesday night and will sit out the match against Pep Guardiola’s side.
Just like Kovacic, Christensen missed the match in Spain, with Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger and Cezar Azpilicueta starting.
Speaking ahead of the match at Wembley, Tuchel also gave news on N’Golo Kante, who has been struggling with an injury.
“We have the green light for N’Golo to play,” confirmed Tuchel of Kante’s availability having played the full minutes against Porto.
“We had three days between which makes a huge difference for him,”
“Mateo Kovacic is unfortunately still out, but feeling already better. Andreas Christensen is also out and cannot be in the squad,”
The German also compared his side with Manchester City, suggesting they are at a similar level with the Premier League leaders.
“We have to accept there is a gap between us and Manchester City, but it’s important we accept it without making us too small,”
“For 90 minutes we are very self-aware and confident we can close the gap for one game. This is the target for tomorrow. We want to have the momentum of the ball on our side, so we have to play at our top-level, force things, and get a bit of luck,”
