Javi Martinez

Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have confirmed that midfielder Javi Martinez will be leaving the club at the end of the season.

The 32-year-old has been at Bayern for the past nine years helping them to a series of titles. In a statement, Bayern said they failed to agree on a new deal and thanked the Spaniard for his services.

“FC Bayern and Javi Martinez are saying ‘goodbye and thank you’ from the bottom of their hearts after nine very successful years together. The club and player have mutually agreed not to extend his contract, which expires on 30 June.

“The Spaniard joined the German record champions in 2012 and quickly became one of the team’s defining pillars. Martinez’s debut season saw Bayern win the first treble in club history, a feat he then repeated last summer in what became a historic year with six titles. The 32-year-old has won the Bundesliga in every season so far, as well as the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup twice each, plus five DFB Cups and four DFL Supercups.”

The player becomes the latest figure at the club who will be leaving in the summer after those of David Alaba, Jerome Boateng, and head coach Hansi Flick.
